Viedoc Technologies continues to support the progress of COVID-19 trials around the world. But why?

The world has recently got some much-needed encouraging news of excellent results in at least three vaccine studies. The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine has now been approved for use next week in UK! It is expected that two more vaccines will be fast-tracked and approved within a matter of weeks or even days. Well, that's it then, we can all rest easy. But there are still many more COVID-19 studies being conducted. So why should they continue?

There are many reasons for these trials to continue and for the world to support this research. Here's just some of them:

  1. While one vaccine may work on an individual level, over 7 billion individuals need protection. Simply put, the broader the range of vaccines, the wider the scope of people that can be helped.
  2. Even if the new vaccines are highly effective, we need billions of doses. The first two vaccines, which will likely be ready for market soon, both require two doses. And it is still unclear how long they will offer immunity. This doubling of dosage means the number of people who can receive the vaccine becomes divided by two — the more companies that can produce a vaccine, the better.
  3. Some vaccines require frigid temperatures to keep them stable (minus 70 Celsius or more). This alone limits the distribution possibilities available. For example, there is a limit to the availability of dry-ice, and in some areas, it just cannot be produced or, at the very least, maintained for the length of time required for delivery to the clinics where the shots will be given. Wealthy countries may view this as an inconvenience, but this presents an impossible distribution hurdle for other nations.
  4. Viruses don't care where you live. All countries need to have access to effective vaccines for the world to beat this pandemic. Everyone everywhere needs access. The COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access Facility (COVAX) is a multilateral effort to ensure poorer countries are included in the fight.

We at Viedoc know that beating the coronavirus is a team effort on a global scale. This is why our team has joined so many others around the world and why we continue to support the fight against COVID-19 in our continued efforts to make the world a healthier place.

Enjoy your trial!
