Viedoc’s support has always been delivered from an in-house team. We know our system the best, and we understand how to best explain it to others. To further improve the way we train our clients, we will, starting from this December, be offering a new “Study Build training” to teach users to build and manage their own studies more independently.
Viedoc’s system training has always been virtual, but now we’ve made it project-based, interactive, and much more fun. The support team members at Viedoc include former academics with many years of teaching experience at the university level. When creating this study build training, we also interviewed many of previously trained clients. Understanding what it’s like to learn as well as teach were important factors when designing a completely new type of training for our clients.
With the new Study Build training we tried to think of the best educational experience for our clients. In the new training, users learn Viedoc while using Viedoc. Video tutorials, written instructions, reference material, assignments, and quizzes are all woven into an instructional study that the user works through at their own pace (estimated time to completion is less than 2 hours total). Below was our underlying pedagogical strategy/philosophy:
- Virtual training
- Being able to train people remotely means we can teach people wherever, whenever, and quickly.
- The current pandemic makes virtual training almost mandatory. But it’s something we’ve been doing for years – long before Harvard was online-only =P
- Project-based
- Hands on training is the best way to learn. Knowing what to do is not the same as knowing how to do it! Users will build their own study following real-world instructions matching the detail they would get from a study protocol.
- In a mentor/student relationship, a practical understanding is what the expert tries to copy into the student. The student should see working examples as they are building their own working examples.
- Video tutorials
- YouTube is filled with them – both good and bad. We tailor our videos to be time efficient. There are some essential things you need to see, and there are other things you can read about later.
- Our tutorials cover the Viedoc-specific necessities and nothing extraneous. We know our audience because we talk with them every day through our general support.
- Interactive
- Just be because it’s virtual doesn’t mean you’re on your own. An instructor is following along and gets an alert if there’s a problem. Private lessons are just a click away. The instructors are the same people providing our world-class support.
- Gamified
- Viedoc is fun so the training should be fun too! Real education is inspiration. We cleverly use all the system’s features as working examples. Quizzes for example, are performed via our ePro – ViedocMe.
- Seeing the system do acrobatics and then programming those same acrobatics is meant to inspire the creative process. You’re not watching a lecture for an hour and then hacking through the system. Every lesson is compartmentalized for maximum information at minimum challenge.
